LAWS 540 - Advanced Legal Writing (Bockman)

Credits: 3

This section of the course will concentrate on format, organization, analysis and written expression of thought in a variety of documents which the students will prepare in the context of writing for a hypothetical appellate judge and court.  The documents will include materials to support an application for a judicial clerkship, a bench brief, a pre-conference memorandum, an opinion for the court,a dissenting opinion, and an editing exercise.  The instructor will provide advice and individual comments tailored to each student’s writing style.

Note: Student may elect to have the course satisfy either the skills course graduation requirement or the writing requirement, but not both.

Form of Grade: Letter
